Holby City: Three nurses and a bush

(Series 23, ep. 6 by Tom Powell 11.5.21) I’ve reviewed this episode for Metro as usual, so please have a look. But first…

Line of the week: (Donna) ‘If I give a speech to three nurses and a bush it’s going to look really stupid.’ Whereas five nurses and a bush looks quite normal (but these are the perils of Covid-safe filming).

The bush is probably more fit for medical duties than most of the staff at Holby, who seem to spend their time unconscious on the floor, anguishing in the basement, operating on people they shouldn’t be operating on, and popping off for ‘personal time’ in the middle of a shift.

Is Lucky Simpson the most deluded staff member of all? Is she really planning to play happy families with Kian and Andrei? She’ll be serving them nutritious meals and washing Kian’s vests while daydreaming about his manly pecs.

Whereas – and I can’t state this too strongly – she should be paying some attention to Hanssen. Now. The man is struggling.

It’ll probably be left to Jeong-Soo to finally help Hanssen, because at least he seems to have a sensible mixture of competence and compassion.

And poor Dominic, too. How is he going to cope when he finds that he once again has a stoma? If only Lucky could tear herself away from her exciting new life at Madani Towers, there are so many people who need her help.

The hark back to the clapping for NHS heroes was a point well made. NHS staff are still heroes and always will be – and deserve so much more than they get.

  1. I suppose it’s another side effect of Covid-safe filming but I feel we are getting too much melodramatic ‘peril’ thrust upon our beloved regular cast members. It’s become a horror show lately 😦

Lucky is a vapid waste of oxygen!

Please God, can someone (beside Max and now Josh) see that Henrik is really struggling and actually bloody do something!

  3. Ramin Karimloo is the reason I started watching “Holby City,” and even I am finding this particular story arc annoying.
