Holby City: The one that got away

(Series 19, ep. 58 ‘It Has To Be Now’ by Becky Prestwich 14.11.17) I know it’s all about the career and that, but you have to say that perhaps Zosia was a bit hasty going off to America and leaving brand new husband Oliver Valentine behind. Because, let’s face it, he’s absolutely adorable. Even if we put his beautiful blue eyes to one side (if you see what I mean), he’s just a really lovely person.

This week he was going head-to-head against neurosurgeon Roxanna MacMillan (Hermione Gulliford) for funding. It was either his biopatch project, or her virtual reality/dementia project. Ollie had a suitable candidate in Mr Duffy (Nick Raggett), who had a tumour called Medusa who was a bit of a diva, apparently (don’t ask). It looked like things were going Ollie’s way when a computer problem meant Roxanna had no access to her notes, but luckily her husband dashed to the hospital with a copy. Her husband was David Hopkins (Fraser James), a big cheese in the CT world. Ollie went quite fangirly for a moment.  Continue reading

Holby City: Pandora’s (musical) box

(Series 19, ep. 28) Who could possibly have imagined it? A Holby City staff member with a Secret Past? It should really have come as no surprise to Jac to find out that Matteo Rossini isn’t all that he seems – after all, her first impression of him was of That Vile Fiend Who Nicked the Digby Stent.

The problem is that the latest revelation – that there’s a Mrs Rossini – came just as Jac’s guard had dropped. Jac’s guard does not drop easily, as we well know, but try as she might she’s been unable to resist his easy Italian charm. His offer of a motorcycle adventure tour was also hard to resist, and was so tempting that Jac almost binned off the annual thoracic surgery conference in Copenhagen to Oliver Valentine.  Continue reading

Holby City: Deck the halls with vows of Zollie

ollie-zosia-holby(Series 19, ep. 10) In a world of doom and gloom it really was nice to have an episode where no-one died, much festive-themed food was consumed (mainly by Mo) and one of the big Holby romances is back on again.

matteo-zosia-ollie-holbyProducer Simon Harper said on Twitter that the reunion of Ollie and Zosia was brought forward specifically to cheer us all up, and it certainly worked for me, anyway. Zosia got Matteo to ask Ollie if he (Matteo) could ask her (Zosia) out, just to make him (Ollie) jealous. It worked a treat, because Ollie has been all prickly and defensive since Matteo arrived, what with his horse riding skills, the whole Italian thing and the fact that he can (allegedly) dance merengue and salsa, speak five languages and play the cello. Good lord, when does the man find the time to keep his beard nicely trimmed? I’m enjoying how Christian Vit seems to relish every second of playing Matteo, thoroughly playing up to all the stereotypes as he does so. It’s going to be interesting to see what kind of man Matteo is under that layer.  Continue reading
