If you spend your entire life thinking about food, the idea of a man who can titillate your tastebuds with great skill and passion, with a dollop of insouciance, is very tempting. Despite a former career as an artist, Valentine ‘What to Eat Now’ Warner is not exactly an oil painting himself. But he’s big, burly and capable, and knows his way round a larder. Skillful with his fingers too, always a plus-point in an object of lust.
Last night he was talking about what makes good food for picnics, flirting outrageously about dominance and submission in the kitchen with another cook. There is something about the wicked look in his eye, his entertaining, but quite strange, sense of humour and the look of pure joy in his eye when he was tucking into his newly baked honey-buns (I’m not making this up), that made me think a picnic with him would be well worth the mosquito bites.
